Have you ever wondered why in television media, movies or even books they confuse human trafficking with human smuggling? I’m sure you’ve heard of the term “white slave trade”, but do you think it’s correct?
Throughout my professional career, one of the biggest obstacles I have encountered when talking about human trafficking has been the lack of knowledge, not only of the development and scope of this crime, but also of the understanding of its conceptualization and definition in itself: what is human trafficking? why is it always confused with smuggling of migrants? what three material means must this crime present in order to be considered as such?
My goal in the development of the dissemination work is to educate the population in the understanding of human trafficking, bringing the phenomenon closer to their daily realities to facilitate their knowledge and, if necessary, help the victims with a future detection. This crime is all around us, knowing what it is, can save many lives.
